The Use of Hypnosis in Therapy:
The use of hypnosis in therapy is an excellent therapeutic technique used to assist clients to rapidly and easily reach an altered state of consciousness. In an altered state of consciousness the subconscious and unconscious mind can be easily accessed to assist in the discovery of negative, self-destructive, self- defeating and core belief structures, which dictates our thoughts and feelings as a child and later forms the basis of our decisions and choices as an adult, ultimately our destined lifestyle. Once an existing negative and self-destructive belief is revealed it can be transformed into an empowering and life-enhancing constructive belief, contributing to the foundation of Self-Love, Self-Empowerment, Self-Confidence and Self-Efficacy (dictates one’s capacity to succeed), but most importantly one’s belief in self to succeed. If negative core beliefs are left undiscovered and unchanged, they will continue to create a negative and self-destructive reality throughout our lifetime. To discover our true core beliefs is very enlightening and amazing. It usually provides each person with a sense of relief and optimum discovery toward self-fulfillment and empowerment.
The problem-solving techniques and core beliefs, thought patterns, that we learned as a child continue to influence the decisions and choices that we make as an adult. These same decisions and choices may or may not be appropriate for our well-being today. Yet these beliefs form the structural basis for our problem-solving skills. They are available for recall at anytime, especially in times of crisis, emotional instability or vulnerability. When we are in an insecure situation we automatically revert back to what we know, most of which are the problem-solving techniques we learned as a child. Without the interception of these outdated techniques and beliefs we are actually attempting to solve adult problems with the capability of a child. Every thought we think creates our future, but the majority of our core beliefs are beliefs that were acceptable long ago and do not represent who we are now or the person we want to be. As our database grows our subconscious mind has absorbed so much information that it must store some in the unconscious level, our deepest level of the mind. This level contains some of our most powerful core beliefs. It stores some of our innermost private, secretive and traumatic experiences, which have created emotional upsets and self-doubt in our subconscious and conscious levels. Every event and every corresponding emotion that is associated with that event is remembered and stored in this level of the mind. To heal physically one must heal the emotional aspect of the issue first or it could create a physical illness in the body.
In hypnotherapy client sessions the
hypnotherapist communicates directly to the subconscious and unconscious levels
where the core beliefs reside. Hypnosis provides the key that will enter the
subconscious and unconscious levels of the mind. To do this we perform the
hypnosis induction/relaxation, then with the assistance of appropriate
questions, non-verbal gestures, signs and body language cues we are able to
access the information stored in the unconscious level, which we then bring
forward to the subconscious level and then to the conscious level where the
self-destructive belief can be identified and released in a safe, confidential
and protective environment. The client is in control throughout the entire
procedure, the hypnotherapist is merely the guide, the facilitator of this
session. This experience provides an awareness of our Superconscious-a
combination of one's spirit, soul, memory, uniqueness and identity.
